Adult Education
Mission: To mature disciples.
We believe disciples mature best in
community. Mt. Horeb provides a variety of groups for
nurture and development of the Christian faith.
Sunday School:
Sunday school classes are small groups ranging from 15-35
people. Bible Study and Christian-based materials teach how
to be more like Jesus. Most classes have fellowship events
outside the church setting to cement relationships and build
community. Classes are available at 9:00 and 10:30a.m.
Small Groups:
Our Small Group ministry provides a community of 8-14 people
who meet to study what it means to live as a Christian.
Some groups meet in homes, others at the church. If you are
looking for a place to ask difficult questions and find
answers then a small group is the place for you!
Short Term Bible Studies:
Short Term Studies occur on a semester rotation and meet at
various times throughout the week.. Classes are taught by
pastors, staff, and lay people. A class may focus on a book
of the Bible, a popular book on Christian living, or on a
particular topic. If you are taking your first steps into
spiritual growth or you have been studying the Bible for
years, there is a study that will help you grow.

CONGREGATIONAL
CARE
Mission: To be the hands and feet of
Jesus Christ
We have so many
opportunities each day to be the hands and feet of Jesus
Christ - and we want to help each one find their place of
service. Maybe it's visiting someone in the hospital,
joining our recently formed Stephen Ministry team, caring
for a family during a time of grief or loss, or visiting
with a shut-in or nursing home resident...whatever need
arises. We believe that God has equipped and enabled
someone - perhaps you...to meet that very need!

Music & Fine Art Ministries
Mission: To
glorify God, lead others in worship, and mature disciples
who use their gifts and skills in service to God.
We
strive to provide a balanced ministry of worship,
discipleship, outreach, and fellowship in all we do.
Our highest calling is first, to worship - being faithful in
praise and to glorify our Lord Jesus with those gifts God
has given to each of us. Discovering and developing
those gifts are ways of equipping the saints for ministry,
through rehearsals, teaching, coaching, and hands-on
experience. We want to use our talents as a vehicle
for bringing people into God's Kingdom through inspiring,
dynamic worship and embracing our tremendous heritage of
great hymns, as well as the contemporary music of today.
We are continuing
our efforts to build an exceptional music and fine arts
ministry at Mt. Horeb. Currently the music program
includes: Chancel Choir; vocal and instrumental
ensembles; exceptional soloists; graded Children's Choirs
(preschool to grade 5); PRIORITY youth choirs (grades 6-12);
handbell choir; and orchestra (for special concerts).
Fine Arts opportunities include: the Michelangelo
Ministry (visual arts); Drama; Production Crews from set
construction to costumes for major musicals; sound, video,
and lighting tech team; and volunteers for the concert
series. Our Praise Band leads worship each week at our
contemporary service.
Concerts at Mt.
Horeb, supported by the Friends of Music, is the result of a
vision to bring the ministry, music, and inspiration of some
of America's top Christian artists to the Lexington
Community.

Prayer Team
Mission: To keep Mt. Horeb a
Prayer-Driven church.
Our prayer team keeps us focused on prayer through the
following activities:
Prayer Retreats/Conferences: In
January the women of our church hold a Women of Faith prayer
retreat. Our church also sponsors a spring prayer
conference.
Prayer Chain:
If you have a prayer request,
click here to have it sent to our prayer team.
If you would like for this to go to a small confidential
prayer group, please include that information in your
request.
Prayer Room: Mt. Horeb has a prayer
room located next to the Worship Center. The prayer room
may be used by anyone during office hours.
Community Prayer Efforts: Mt. Horeb
takes prayer out into the community. We are involved in
prayer walks and John 3:16 boxes placed in local businesses. |

SPECIAL NEEDS
MINISTRY
Mission: To
reach out to all special needs students and their families by providing a
safe, caring place of belonging,
worship, and spiritual growth.
Sunday School:
Every Sunday morning beginning at 10:30 am, our students and
teachers gather in room 201. We use Cokesbury curriculum
designed for our students. A typical class session
experiences God and His word by reading a Bible lesson,
illustrating the message through crafts or music, prayer
time and lots of other fun activities.
Special Needs
Basketball: This special league has grown to include
over 50 children and young adults in the Lexington area and
surrounding counties. On the court assistance is provided by
coaches and assistants as needed. Games and practices are
held weekly during the months of January and February.
Contact Maggie Wessinger at 622-6745 or
MWessinger2@sc.rr.com
for more information.
Vacation Bible
School: In recent years, thousands of children have
attended VBS at Mt. Horeb. Typically scheduled during a week
in June, VBS offers an exciting way for children to learn
about God. We offer a class in the VBS evening program
designed to provide all that VBS offers, but in an
environment that fits our students best.
Respite Care:
On the third Thursday of each month, we offer respite care
for teens and young adult children who have special needs.
Volunteers from the church meet with the students in the
Fellowship Hall from 5 to 8 pm while their parents take some
time for themselves. This is a ministry of the Hope Circle.
For more information, please call Beth Heaton at 356-8571.
The Day
Program: Meets on the first Tuesday of each month and is
designed for the young adults who have already completed
school. It needs from 9:30am to 1:30pm in the
Fellowship Hall. It is sponsored by the Midlands Special
Needs Foundation. Contact Sally Garner at 356-8394 for
more information.
For additional
information, to register or to volunteer, please contact the
church office at 359-3495.

STEPHEN MINISTRY
Stephen Ministry is based on the
idea that all Christians are ministers. The responsibility
for passing on God's love is for all Christians, not just
for a chosen few. God has given us all gifts for ministry
and called us to put those gifts to use. Stephen Ministry
is a place where people with special gifts for caring
ministry can use those gifts to bring Christ's love to
people in need. For more information, contact Gary
Goodman at 600-7739, Jeanie Sheppard at 331-5461, Sandra
Carter at 957-6572, or Valli Johnson at 808-4449. |

STUDENT
Ministries
|
|
Mission: To ignite
the spark of faith, fuel the flame of growth, and light the
world on fire!
In
the Old Testament and the New Testament, we see decisive
moments where God meets and speaks to His people on the
mountain! God spoke to Moses on Sinai and Abraham on Moriah
in the Old Testament. When Jesus revealed His identity as
the Son of God, He took some of His disciples up on a
mountain and showed them the full extent of divinity.
At Mt Horeb UMC,
our student ministries staff believes that God sets aside
holy and sacred moments for each individual student. We
provide weekly opportunities around the theme of “the
Mountain,” where God can manifest His power and show His
goodness!
MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS - The
Ascent, Sunday mornings from
10:00-11:30am in the Family Life Center,
is a time for food, fellowship,
teaching, and worship. Also, on
Wednesday nights we meet from 6:00-7:30
pm in the Youth Room for our weekly
group called Elevate. The time
combines snacks and drinks for sale,
big-group games, outreach, worship, and
a speaker.
|
|
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS - The
Ascent, Sunday mornings from
10:00-11:30am in the Youth Room is a
time for round-table discussion-based
Bible teaching, worship, and breakfast.
Also, our weekly outreach service on
Wednesday nights, called The Meridian,
meets at New Providence Elementary
School from 6:00-7:30pm and combines
snacks and drinks for sale, student-led
worship, big-group games, and a speaker.
Also, for 9th-12th grade students, we
offer our small group ministry called
Base Camps, where students meet
weekly with a peer group of same gender/
same age students. Here, they will find
encouragement, teaching, fellowship,
prayer, and accountability with a
smaller group of peers. |
