Questions about Men's Ministry?

Men's & Co-ed Interest Groups

Adoption & Foster Care - Co-ed

Meg and Matt Moore became adoptive parents in 2016. This small group will explore the beauty and wonder of our adoption in Christ and its implications for reaching others. Adoption and foster care present unique challenges and questions, so we also hope to create connection between past, present, and future adoptive and foster parents. All are welcome, no matter where you are on your journey! Email Matt Moore for more info or to get involved.

Time & Location TBA

Cancer Support - Co-ed

My name is LeRyiah Arant and I am married to Russell Arant. We have two children, Ruby, 11, and Navy, 9. I am a full time Mom and faith blogger at www.leryiaharant.com. For the last five years, until her passing in April 2019, I served as my Mom's caregiver and healthcare advocate. My mom was diagnosed with Glioblastoma brain cancer in January 2014 and became a participant in the Polio Clinical Trial at Duke University. She was a medical pioneer and fought a courageous battle until receiving eternal healing on April 7, 2019. My Mom lived and loved a life with cancer, but never defined by it. Our family continues to advocate for and support the brain cancer community. I believe the Lord created us to live in communion with Him and to live in community with one another. I am passionate about creating a safe haven for people to genuinely come as they are and find authentic Christian community to call home. I believe we must be intentional about creating community while having the willingness to be vulnerable and to "go first." You do not have to be a member of Mt. Horeb UMC to attend. Whether you are newly diagnosed, in remission or a cancer caregiver, you are encouraged and welcome to participate. Email LeRyiah Arant for more info or to get involved.

1st & 3rd Tuesday of Every Month | 6:00 PM - Food & Fellowship | 6:30 PM - Meeting Time | Chapel

The "Guitar Pull" - Co-ed

Born and raised in Nashville, TN, I have loved the traditional music (country, blues, bluegrass, and gospel) that I grew up hearing. The songwriters and session players in Nashville had what they called 'guitar pulls'. These were just 'get-togethers' where they would share the music they were making with their contemporaries for feedback and just 'to hone their craft'. I have always loved playing and sharing music in that way! This group is for anyone who likes to play, sing, write, and / or listen to traditional music played on traditional acoustic instruments. Email Bill Black for more info or to get involved.

Every other Saturday | 8-10 AM | Room TBA

Tethered Together - Co-ed

We are Tom, Sam and Diane and we believe that life brings us many challenges, questions, and disappointments. Life is always “better together”. As we go through life, we believe in staying tethered to God’s word and others who are pursuing a deeper relationship with God. We are looking forward to an intergenerational group where older folks learn from the younger folks and younger folks learn from the older folks. Email Sam Thomas for more info or to get involved.

If childcare is needed, Kids Sunday School Programming meets at 10:45 AM.

Visions Photography - Co-ed

My name is Ralph Mayer. I've been a photographer since 1974, using 35mm Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras and lenses. Much of that was as a hobbyist, but my employer (BellSouth) began sending me all over their 9-state region to photograph a variety of situations for training classes, as well as many huge events. I later taught at Midlands Tech (not photography) for a decade. Midlands Tech had me do much of their photography and still use a lot of it today. I now shoot for the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, Hilton Hotels, and the USofC Darla Moore School of Business as a contract photographer, and many other businesses. I also shoot as a volunteer at Mt. Horeb for special events, and the New Members as they join the church. When Mt. Horeb asked me to lead a photography interest group, I was excited about the possibility of sharing some of the photography techniques I've learned over many years. Much of what I've learned is technical, but so much more is "vision." God creates endless beauty around us. I've had many people over the years look at what I've captured photographically, and say, "Wow, there really IS a God!!" Everything you can possibly imagine is out there. I hope to help you develop an "eye" for God's beauty all around us, then how to capture it on "film"--or, whatever digital media you use. I certainly don't know everything about photography by any means, but I hope I know enough to help you enjoy it and maybe even get a bit better--no matter what you choose to photograph and what type of camera you use--even your cellphone. Email Ralph Mayer for more info or to get involved.
