Discern

Any movement of God is always preceded by a time of prayer and discernment. Samuel’s pursuit of God’s guidance resulted in great change and flourishing for the nation of Israel. Believers’ earnest prayers for Peter’s safety in prison in the book of Acts led to his release. And Jesus’ reliance on his Heavenly Father in Gethsemane paved the way for him to face the cross. Before our congregation makes this important decision about the future of our church, we, too, need to spend time with God, seeking His strength and wisdom. We hope you will faithfully join us as we discern a way forward.

Recommended Action

Over the last three months, the Mt. Horeb Way Forward Leadership Team has studied the best options for future affiliation following separation from The United Methodist Church. Throughout this process, their goal has been to preserve Mt. Horeb’s ministries while also studying the most effective ways to enhance and advance the ministries in the coming decades.

After careful consideration, the Way Forward Leadership Team is recommending affiliation the Global Methodist Church (GMC). Mt. Horeb Church members are being called to a churchwide vote to ratify this recommendation beginning July 16, 2023.

Listening Sessions

Because there is much wisdom in the company of many, Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church is hosting two listening sessions. These meetings are for church members only. Both listening sessions will be held in the Sanctuary.

  • Each session will include an informational overview featuring members of our clergy and lay leadership teams.
Session 1: Thursday, June 29 from 6:30-7:30 PM
Session 2: Wednesday, July 12 from 6:30-7:30 PM

Congregational Vote

  • Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church’s leadership is anticipating a congregational vote to decide our next step of affiliation. This vote is for members only. The plan is to hold this event on July 16 after each of the 9:00 and 10:45 worship services.
